Like many automakers, startup Rivian is having trouble getting vehicles into buyers’ hands. Extreme demand for some products combined with ongoing supply chain difficulties have caused wait times to balloon, but Rivian has a plan. The automaker reached out to Teslarati to explain its new R1 Shop, which it says will drastically shorten delivery times on its R1T and R1S EVs.
Rivian said it would invite many R1T reservation holders to configure their trucks using the service and noted that delivery times would be between one and four months after confirmation. The automaker has had delays with both the R1T and R1S and pushed back the release of its larger battery pack.
Though it’s had a bumpy couple of years, Rivian is the most successful of the recent upstart automakers. Remember Lordstown? After Mike Pence sang its praises, the company barely made it through management changes and the pandemic and just recalled every one of the few vehicles it has delivered. Lucid is also struggling with meeting demand, and some buyers' wait times extend to five months.
