Report: Toyota is Planning Several New Models, Including a Small Pickup

report toyota is planning several new models including a small pickup

Toyota’s got a lot going on, from the shockingly good-looking new Prius in 2023 to a fresh Tacoma pickup and Land Cruiser SUV next year. On top of that, Automotive News recently reported that the automaker has several other new models on the way, starting with a Crown Crossover and an electric three-row family hauler.

The Japanese auto giant is also said to be planning a new small pickup truck based on the Corolla. Rumors have swirled for years that Toyota would bring the funky Stout pickup back after more than 20 years off the market. The company will remain dedicated to developing new sedan models, including an electric model based on a concept shown in 2021.

At the same time, the automaker is pushing ahead with its electrification strategy. Toyota has been slower to move on EVs as it pursues a more diverse strategy to reach zero emissions. Its previous CEO, Akio Toyoda, was famously bullish on hybrids and other technology like hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. While the company took criticism from some, other automakers have begun pursuing similar strategies.

Ford CEO Jim Farley acknowledged that customers want hybrids and plug-in hybrids, saying that his company would work to develop new electrified models that provide solid fuel economy at lower prices than full battery-electric vehicles.
