These Quirky Electric Trucks Pack Serious Capability

these quirky electric trucks pack serious capability

Though they’re all over the streets of gated communities and could essentially be the mascot of Boca Raton, FL, golf carts are not street-legal. Even the most pimped-out cart can’t reach legal speeds and has zero in the way of safety equipment. Club Car, the company responsible for much of Florida’s retiree transportation, aims to change that with its new Urban LSV and XR. The Urban is a funky, tiny pickup truck with an electric powertrain and a small dump truck bed.

Club Car offers two versions of the truck, the street-legal LSV and the non-street-legal XR. The LSV gets at least some of the things people expect to see in a road car, including seatbelts, turn signals, and headlights. Even so, the tiny ute tops out at 25 mph, so any hope of an exciting spec racing series will have to wait. The off-road-only XR maxes out at 19 mph.

At 143 inches long and 54 inches wide, the truck is more than half a foot shorter than a Mitsubishi Mirage, but it’s not short on capability. Club Car promises a 2,204-pound payload rating for the EV and said that it can travel up to 62 miles on a charge. Buyers can upgrade with features like a widebody kit and rough terrain tires, cabin doors, a heater, a Bluetooth stereo, and a brush guard.

We’re poking fun at the truck, but for many fleet buyers, it could be a time- and money-saver. A small electric truck with such strong payload capacity could easily replace a full-size pickup in some situations, and its size makes it more easily maneuverable.
