2022 Honda Civic: Everything We Know

One of our favorite compact cars is due for a complete redesign soon. The 2022 Honda Civic will almost certainly continue to be the spacious, fun-to-drive, and practical small car we know and love, with a few improvements to keep it fresh. Here’s what we can expect to see on the 11th-generation Civic.

2022 Honda Civic: Evolutionary Style

The new design will be more evolutionary than revolutionary, based on what we’ve seen in patent photos posted to Civic11Forum. Overall, expect a tamer design compared to the over-styled exterior of the current model, with a hint of Honda Insight to its front and rear fascias. The patent photos show the Civic with a more streamlined grille, a long hood, and conventional looking taillights instead of the old C-shaped units.

Open the doors, and you’ll see a more modern cabin. The 2022 Honda Civic will likely come with a larger touchscreen and the latest iteration of Honda’s infotainment software. The odds are good that the traditional gear stalk will be replaced by a push-button shifter on models with an automatic transmission, as seen in many other recent Honda products.

2022 Honda Civic: Engines and Transmissions

It stands to reason that Honda will continue to offer the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine throughout the lineup. This mill makes a standard 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque on the current Civic, while some versions of the Civic Hatchback up the ante with a maximum 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. It’s unclear if the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will survive the redesign. We don’t anticipate a hybrid powertrain—that’s why Honda has the Insight.

Honda should continue to offer a CVT. With Honda dropping the Accord’s manual transmission, we can only hope the Civic retains an option those who want to row their own gears.

2022 Honda Civic: Body Styles, and Trims

So which body styles will continue? Of course, we can count on the sedan. Unfortunately, the Civic Coupe is gone for good, with slow sales and shifting customer preferences to blame. While the Civic Si is taking a break for the 2021 model year, Honda assures us it’s coming back for 2022.

The Civic Hatchback will remain a top choice for buyers looking for strong performance and extra cargo space. The Type R is expected to continue providing thrills for those who love driving. Rumors say the hot hatch will eventually go hybrid.

Honda will make the 2022 Civic available in a wide variety of trim levels. These will likely be similar to the current lineup consisting of the LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring (Sport Touring) models.

2022 Honda Civic: Prices and On-Sale Date

Prices have yet been announced for the 2022 Honda Civic. But we can only expect they’ll increase from the current lineup. That means the new sedan will exceed $21,755, and the Si will top $26,155. The new Civic Hatchback should be priced above $22,955. Look for the new Civic to arrive next year.
