Titan, Eh? Nissan Discontinues Its Big Pickup in Canada

Nissan will discontinue the Titan lineup in Canada. Naturally, this news had us worried the truck would meet the same fate here in the United States. Fortunately, it looks like the recently updated Titan will continue to be sold in our neck of the woods.

Nissan confirmed to MotorTrend that the Titan will indeed exit the Canadian market after the 2021 model year. However, Nissan also assured us that the truck isn’t leaving the U.S. anytime soon.

“Titan was refreshed for the 2020 model year and offers the most standard power, safety features, and technology in its class, and it remains an important part of Nissan’s U.S. product lineup,” Nissan wrote in a statement. “Titan will continue to be sold in the U.S. beyond model-year 2021.”

It would have been unfortunate to see the truck leave our market after undergoing so many improvements this year. The 5.6-liter V-8 engine boasts more power, with a total output of 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque compared to the 2019 model’s 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque. Replacing the old seven-speed automatic transmission is a smoother, quicker-shifting nine-speed unit. The Titan also benefits from a larger touchscreen and a full suite of standard safety features. Unfortunately, there are a few things that the refresh could not fix. Namely, the truck still suffers from lower towing and payload ratings than those of its rivals.

Don’t expect the aging Frontier to go anywhere, either. After receiving a few updates earlier this year, including a new engine and transmission, the midsize truck is expected to undergo a full redesign for the 2021 or 2022 model year.
