Maybach Creates the $250,000 Night Edition to End All Night Editions

Despite its age, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class remains the benchmark of the large luxury sedan segment. The ultra-luxury Maybach version kicks things up a notch further with a sleeker design and even finer interior appointments. Now, Mercedes is offering an extremely exclusive Maybach Night Edition with dark exterior accents and lots of carbon fiber. Only 15 examples of the 2020 Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Night Edition will be sold.

It’s not particularly flashy from the outside, but the Night Edition sports a few key differences over the traditional Maybach model. The Night Edition features “smoked” 20-inch wheels to complement its black exterior. Another nice touch is the carbon-fiber spoiler at the rear. A subtle Night Edition badge is found on the side of the vehicle, too.

The real drama happens inside the cabin. There, you’ll find white and black leather upholstery and carbon-fiber trim on the dash and doors. The model also features special leather floor mats (and a trunk mat), and a Night Edition badge on the center console.

Like other Maybach sedans, the Night Edition gets a wood and leather-covered steering wheel, leather door sills, dual 12.3-inch screens, and 64-color ambient interior lighting. Front and rear seats have heated, ventilated, and massaging functions. Rear passengers can also recline their seatbacks and take full advantage of the power calf rests.

Under the hood, the Night Edition gets a familiar twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 that pumps out an impressive 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Normally, we expect Mercedes to give all the good stuff to Europe, but that’s not the case with the Night Edition. In fact, the model is available only in the United States. That said, it will still be very difficult to get your hands on one.

Now for what you really want to know: How much does it cost? The 2020 Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Night Edition is priced at $243,945. That makes it significantly more expensive than the “regular” Maybach S 650, which goes for $203,545.
